The One-Sentence Journal

David Sparks:

I’ve decided to commit to journaling 2012. Even if it is just one sentence, I’m going to make an entry every day.

In 2006 I realised I was forgetting a lot of my life so I decided to keep a journal. As ever, motivation waned, especially as journal time immediately preceded bedtime.

The trick I found was to commit to just one sentence. Almost always I write more than that, but this easiest possible requirement gets me started more often than not.

Five years later, I have a collection of Moleskines filled with the minutiae of daily life. Memoirs these are not, just the little things that were happening and how I felt about them. A great record and good for getting the day off my mind before going to sleep.
